Manchester Creative and Media Academy (MC&MA) is always a hub of activity. Over these past few weeks both sites have held various events, club activities and trips here at the academy and further afield. Here is a rundown of some of this month’s happenings.

Drugs and Alcohol Awareness session

On Wednesday April 14 Mrs Rose organised an information evening for parents and carers at the girls’ site, highlighting the dangers of drugs and alcohol for young people.

Ran by Drugs and Alcohol awareness lecturer and DCSF advisor Ron Flowers, the ex-policemen detailed the risks to health because of substance abuse at the session.

Revision conference

A revision conference for all year 11 MC&MA (Boys) students took place in the hall at the boys’ site on Thursday April 15.

The pupils were split into groups of eight, and a member of staff spent five minutes talking to the boys about revision tips they can use to help them prepare more effectively for their exams.

Revision pointers including mind maps, revision cards, spider diagrams and revising with friends were some of the ideas raised.

Badminton stars

MC&MA (Girls) students Jade Parker, Aimee Cook and Rakaya Centernera were all ‘court moppers’ at the European Badminton Championships at the MEN Arena earlier on this month.

This took place after they all completed a badminton leaders’ award in the Easter holidays.

The students also competed in an exhibition match before the championships’ final on Sunday against a squad from Merseyside.

Fantastic work girls!

Manchester Gateway

A group of MC&MA (Boys) students got to discover all about higher education when they visited the Manchester Gateway programme.

Adem Altunkaya, Qasim Lodhi, Adam Bezzina, Connor Meekle, Sean Wood and Bradley Larner travelled to The University of Manchester for the scheme.

It provided an opportunity for Key Stage 3 and 4 learners within Greater Manchester to participate in academic enrichment and higher education awareness activities.

The boys learned about the range of university courses available and developing their transferable skills in areas that will help them fulfil their potential.
