Talented year 8 pupils from Creative and Media Academy (MC&MA Girls) collected a clutch of silver and bronze medals at the Regional Athletics Championships for Disabled and Deaf Athletes.
Leah Farrell and Abigail Searles competed in the semi-final on April 24 after they took part in the The Manchester School Disability County Event where they both came away with a trophy.
Using skills for success
Leah won silver in the 100 metre run, bronze in shot put and also came fourth place in the javelin. Abigail got a bronze in the 100 metre run and the high jump. She came fourth in the long jump.
It’s the third year MC&MA (Girls) have been in the semi-finals, which took place at Sportcity athletics stadium next to the City of Manchester stadium.
Mrs Flanagan, Special Education Needs (SEN) assistant at MC&MA (Girls) said: “It was a superb day. We had a fantastic time and the girls were brilliant.
“On behalf of myself both of these girls have done MC&MA (Girls) extremely proud.”
Leah and Abigail will go through to the National Junior Athletics Championships at Stanley Park in Blackpool on July 3 and 4. They will be joined by year 8 student Rosslyn Mitchell.
Abraham Moss High School also hosted a sports event for SEN students on Wednesday April 21, where Leah and Abigail were joined by year 8 students Jemma Massey and Sarah Hart.
Kylie Shepley, Lydia Cohen and Nicole Perkins from year 7 also competed. They all received certificates of achievement.
