Manchester Creative and Media Academy for Boys’ (MC&MA Boys) student council members were brought together for a special training session about resolving issues in a peaceful manner.
The group went to the Bower Hotel for the day, which was led by Julie Wolstenholme from MIRRA, a Restorative Approaches organisation based in Manchester.
Students did group exercises about respect and consideration for others and behaviour and conflict. They also played ice breaker games and used the restorative ‘circle’ to get to know and understand each other.
A sit-down two-course lunch in one of the Bower Hotel’s restaurant was also served.
They were accompanied by Mrs Carr, MC&MA Boys’ Assistant Vice Principal.
Julie said: “I was very impressed with the boys. The standard of the responses to questions and problems were absolutely fantastic.”
She added: “It’s extremely important that the students learn how to solve conflict; and that’s what the day was about.”
About the meal, Julie said: “It’s so important. Some of the kids may have never have sat down to a meal like that.”
