Former MCMA Trio Construct Their Own Future

15/06/2011 by mcma

A trio of former MCMA students are proving that hard work and determination pays off.

Two former pupils have hit gold landing prized apprenticeships with Blue Chip construction firms.  Josh Shaw and Adam walker, former pupils from MCMA have been studying BTEC Level 3 Construction at the Manchester College, Openshaw.

To gain the apprenticeships they had to compete against adults with years of work experience and impress employers like Laing O’Rourke at the interview stage. College Tutor Shaun Kelly could not hide his delight that the pair had done so well.

Another ex pupil riding high, Tom Maudsley hopes to get internship with an Architecture firm this summer before going off to study Architecture in September 2012.   Tom is predicted distinctions in his Level 3 BTEC grades which will secure a place at University.

The three ex pupils explained what lay behind their success.  Josh, 16, says that believing in yourself is the key, whilst Adam and Tom both 17 put their achievements down to hard work.

The three got interested in Construction in Year 10 when they started going to college one day a week to study construction.   The Academy, in partnership with the Manchester College offers a BTEC Level 2 diploma in Construction and the Built Environment to pupils at Key Stage 4.
