It was second time lucky for students on MCMA’s Construction Diploma this week, as Jason McKnight, Construction Manager for Lend Lease, made an inspirational return visit to speak about working in the Construction Industry.  Year 11 Specialised Diploma in Construction students were given a rare insight into working for one of the World’s leading construction firms.  In fact Lend Lease is the developer behind MCMA’s new iconic campus, along with other amazing structures, such as Manchester Civil Justice Centre- nicknamed the “Filing Cabinet” and the Athletes Village at the 2012 Olympics.

The presentation covered routes into the Construction Industry, Higher Education, Job Search Skills and having the right skills and attitude to succeed.  Jason’s experience working in the United States stimulated much interest and led many to consider a career with a multi-national such as Lend Lease. Jason’s presentation kept the students hooked, with so many questions it went over the allotted time.

Jason also highlighted the value of work experience and explained that academic qualifications need to be backed by skills such as communication and teamwork. After the talk Year 11 Louis Wilbraham commented that the presentation was “very interesting” and Brandon Marsh summed up the talk in one word “brilliant”.
