A Careers Fair is a great way to find out about Job Opportunities and the Career Aspiration Event organised by Manchester City Council, did just that.
Different from a traditional careers fair, the event at the Etihad Stadium consisted completely of “hands on” practical activities. Organisations such as Greater Manchester Fire Service and British Gas supported the event, amongst other employers and training providers.
MCMA pupils got stuck in and participated in activities related to Gas and Electric services, Science and engineering. Careers in Animal Care provided the opportunity for a close encounter with a Cockroach.
The hospitality industry was well represented and students had a go at making Couscous and Eton Mess. Whilst pupils more suited to creative occupations tried their luck with handcrafts. Others took part in Hair and Beauty workshops finding out about nail painting and hair care.
The Leisure sector had a range of challenges involving exercise bikes and rowing machines. While digital media industries offered filming and editing opportunities a fashion workshop gave budding designers an insight into how ideas go from the drawing board to the catwalk.
Apprenticeships were promoted at the event with several current apprentices acting as Apprenticeship Ambassadors, who were able to give pupils the lowdown on life as an apprentice.
But what did the pupils think of the event:
“I liked it, enjoyed it”-Ronan
“Great, I enjoyed the fashion”- Laura
“I liked making the Couscous”- Lydia
“I enjoyed it especially British Gas”- Aneesa
“Good, especially the electronics and the cycling”-Alex
“I enjoyed the cooking”-Hope
“I liked the Ambulance workshop and making the Eton Mess”-Ikra
Asked if they would like to take part if the event was run again, the answer was a resounding YES.
