In April MCMA’s cancer research adverts will be shown on the Community Channel advert breaks in conjunction with their ‘Against the Odds’ season, reaching a potenial audience of 1 million people.
The adverts were made last year by MCMA students Declan, Kuda, Conor, Robin and Brandon with design practice CDA, the Teenage Cancer Trust, The Media Trust and The Ideas Foundation. The project asked young people to come up with solutions which would encourage their peers to be aware of the signs of cancer without scaring them and creating panic.
The adverts use off-beat humour amongst other techniques to create impact and deliver the key message. The work has been highly praised by health professionals at The Teenage Cancer Trust who may be using the work in training packages for professionals working with young people in the future. Now they will been seen nationally and impact on a wide audience which was something that the boys felt extremely strongly about at the start of the project. They wanted to make teenagers aware of the signs of cancer and encourage them to look for help if they were suffering these symptoms.
A big congratulations to everyone involved in this project, look out for the adverts on the Community Channel.
