• Neilson Reeves Photography Neilson Reeves Photography
After a welcome and tour of the complex, Rose Marley (Sharp Project Management Team) set the scene for the day. Local economic trends were explained and the growing opportunities in the creative and digital sectors were highlighted. Immediate opportunities in the field of coding were flagged up.
Rose went onto explain that Manchester is the second largest creative media hub in the UK and described how creative individuals working with just a computer can generate an income of over £70,000 a year.
The morning continued with workshops on motion capturing and the role UX (user experience) designer. Following lunch the MCMA group got to investigate viral marketing with the pupils designing a marketing campaign themselves. The pupils then got a glimpse into the world of film and picture editing before the final product design workshop with design business Inventid. Inventid explained the design process and demonstrated the power and flexibility of computer design.
Overall the day was viewed by all as a great success. Nathan Rooney, who will start a BTEC Level 3 in Media at MCMA’s Sixth Form, summed up the day saying it was “Great, a mint experience”. While Leah Williams (a Year 10 Media student) stated “I want to work here!”
The day was organised by SharpFutures (www.sharpfutures.org.uk), a creative & digital agency within the Sharp Project. SharpFutures aims to support talented young people into employment in the creative & media sector.
