A group of Year 10 business studies students benefited from a visit to KPMG’s Manchester Office on Friday 7th March. The visit organised by TeachFirst, to MCMA’s Business in the Community partner KPMG gave the pupils an understanding of what it is like to work for one of the “big four” professional services firms, along with advice on employability.
The Insight Day, run by KPMG staff who had generously taken time out of their schedules, started with an introduction to the company; looking at what KPMG does and the range of career opportunities it offers. The learners then took a tour of the St James Square Complex.
The agenda then focused on employability skills and the pupils took part in a workshop which involved creating a curriculum vitae; highlighting what should and shouldn’t go in it. A networking lunch with KPMG employees followed the CV writing, allowing the pupils to discuss getting on in the world of work in an informal setting.
After lunch provided by KPMG, the pupils were given a mock interview, along with tips and strategies to ensure successful interview performance.
The pupil verdict on the day was that it was an overwhelming success. Year 10 pupil Shuweib, commented that the day was “really good” as it had provided the group with a good awareness of future opportunities.
