Year 11 took the first steps in their transition to further education, apprenticeship and employment this week with a focus on interview skills. An insightful and entertaining presentation was delivered by Ben Ramduny, Risk Consultancy Manager at KPMG.
Heavily involved in recruitment, Ben conducts a high number of job interviews each month and this expertise made the talk resonate with the students.
Ben outlined the importance of a good interview in securing that all important first job and moving up the career ladder, outlining the range of possible formats from the telephone to panel interview.
Lots of advice was conveyed to the learners, from the importance of first impressions and the all-important handshake to dealing with difficult questions. The importance of having well prepared answers to general questions was flagged up, as was having some good questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview.
Pupil feedback on the event was very positive and Year 11 will be able to put their newly learned interview skills to the test in mock interviews planned for November.
